Things had been going so well.
He and Roy were finally back together, and while most people seemed absolutely thrilled with the idea, some were more cautious, especially those of the arrow clan as they knew of the pain Dick had caused Roy.
Dick had also managed to have a few words with Bruce about Cass and Jason, though the latter subject was lightly touched upon and thankfully Bruce seemed to regret that that had no contact with them and Dick was sure when he asked Bruce to talk with Cass and Jason he wouldn’t say no.
Things had been going so well until Wally had come back and Bart had died.
He had been ecstatic to learn that his best friend was finally back and the only thing that had prevented him from immediately going to see him was when Roy then told him that Bart had died and his worry for Tim shut all his other thoughts down.
He wanted to see Wally but his was a brother first and a best friend second.
He should have been there when he had lost Kon but he had been too caught up in himself to even think about comforting Tim and now he knew he couldn’t let that happen again. His little brother needed him now more than ever and after Tim had lashed out against him, cursing the world to hell before falling into his arms in a river of tears Dick knew he had made the right decision. Even after Tim had fallen asleep in an exhausted mess and he had to stay in a really uncomfortable position for hours so he wouldn’t wake his little brother up, even after his legs had gone numb and Jason and Cass had appeared catching him with Tim in his arms he had never been so grateful that he had gone to Tim first.
Jason had helped him move Tim to the couch and Cass had looked at Dick with something akin to admiration after Dick had refused to leave Tim on his own, saying that he needed to prove to his little brother that he wasn’t alone and when he woke up finding Cass and Jason also right there to help him they would prove to Tim that he had an even bigger family than before.
Everyone seemed to agree, even Jason as he slung an arm around Cass’ waist, that Robins should never be alone.

Five days after the funeral, with Tim safely being watched by Cass and Jason, Dick finally went to spend a day with Wally, celebrating his return.
Roy had already spent a great deal talking with the speedster, filling him in on all that he had missed, and he had encouraged Dick to spend the day with him alone. Saying that they could do something all together later, Roy suggested a long weekend by the beach, when Dick was comfortable leaving Tim and Wally had his life back under control.
Dick had noticed that Wally seemed to be slightly skittish around him, as if he wanted to address something but he couldn’t find the right words to say. It was annoying but Dick waited and his patience was rewarded by the expectant question.
“So…you and Roy, huh?”
Dick paused and put down the chip he was about to eat, it wasn’t surprising that Wally was the most comfortable to talk about awkward things when he was around food.
“Yeah. You okay with that?”
Wally nodded quickly. “Yes, it’s just…weird you know? I mean, did you always have the hots for each other or is this a new thing?”
Dick smiled and thought it wouldn’t be a good idea to tell Wally that he and Roy had been having sex back in the Titan days right under the other Titan’s noses, even though Donna probably knew, because he didn’t think that his friend could handle that.
“We’ve been going on and off for a couple of years, mostly my fault we kept breaking up, but this time we’re both entirely serious on staying together.”
Wally nodded and leant back in his chair, drinking from his milkshake as he tried to successfully think about his friends being together without feeling uncomfortable.
“Okay, I can deal with that. I can see that being together makes you both happy and if you’re happy, then I’m happy.”
That was all it took and Dick had never been more grateful to have his friend back.
Even if his stomach swam with guilt as he thought about Tim nearly falling into pieces over another death. Dick recalled the pain he had felt when Donna had died and he resolved to go over to see Tim tonight even if Cass told him to stay away and rest.
He couldn’t let Tim deal with this alone.

Because Tim needed to grieve successfully and move on from the death and not let it haunt im and drag him down, like how all bats dealt with death, the plan to get Bruce and Clark together was postponed. Even though Tim had said he would still like to help, he liked Clark, especially when he was happy and in turn making Bruce happy, and Tim had insisted that just because he was suffering that didn’t mean anyone else had to.
After that Dick had hit Tim over the head with a pillow for saying such a thing, or he would have if Tim hadn’t ducked and hit Jason instead. Jason then of course retaliated and a pillow fight had commenced. Tim had tried to stay out of it, but it was all in vain and in the end the room had ended up full of feathers from fighting Robins.
Tim fell to the ground, with a genuine look of amusement of his face as he brushed white feathers off of his t-shirt and he couldn’t help but smile, the first real smile after Bart had died, as he watched Cass scold the two older men as feathers littered their hair and clothes and were scattered throughout the room.
The look of anger on her face though was defeated by the fact she was trying not to laugh and she knew how much good this had been for Tim; coupled with the image of her bad-ass boyfriend covered with feathers and not looking at all discomforted by the fact. He even seemed pleased with himself at the destruction he had caused as Dick seemed far more feathered than he was, telling himself that he had won.
Dick wasn’t thinking about the fight, or how he allowed Jason to get in more hits just so he could manoeuvre Tim into the fight as his little brother looked actually happy. This was the first real sign that Tim was recovering, Dick had feared it would take longer than this, but with his brothers and sister by his side they had prevented Tim from falling over the edge and as long as none of them left him, which was not going to happen, Tim could deal with his grief healthily and against all odds the bats could get through emotional turmoil together and not push each other away.
Even though Bart’s death had threatened to take Robin away from them, they had pulled together and had become closer than ever before. Dick could almost imagine that this is the way they would’ve been like if death, villains and emotional issues hadn’t gotten in the way and prevented them from being together.
They were a family now, and nothing was ever going to change that.
“So, everyone ready for the plan?”
The others looked down at Tim who was still sitting on the floor.
The teen smiled, even if a little pain still lingered in his eyes. “I think it’s time we got Bruce and Clark back together.”
Dick and Cass smiled and nodded while Jason grinned and clapped his hands together. “Operation relationship is in effect.”
