The night before…
The pendant saw its doom, falling down through the air and the magic it was granted surged through its entire being in panic.
It latched onto Jason’s broken heart and frantically searched for another, one whose heart would fit so perfectly with his, yet there had to be familiarity, there had to be something already there…
Finding it the pendant hummed with satisfaction and released its magic, just before it hit the ground.
But in doing this so quickly, the pendant caused a side effect in that search for familiarity of broken hearts it hadn’t intended…
The movie finished, the end credits disappeared off the screen and the main title menu appeared, but Tim was too tired to get up and turn it off, not while his heart felt so heavy and Cassie was leaning against him.
She was asleep, her blonde hair falling messily over his shoulder and down his front and Tim felt that familiar ache within his chest. When he looked at her like this, so peaceful, so relaxed, he wanted to be able to smile and card his fingers through her soft locks, but he couldn’t find it in his himself to do it. Not when Kon and Bart had done that for him…
It was in that moment, just as her eyes fluttered open that an explosion rocked the Tower, a blinding light filled the room and Tim was forced to cover his face in surprise and he heard Cassie scream…
It was also in that moment that he heard two voices that he had thought he would never hear again…
He lowered his arms and looked up with wide unbelieving eyes. “Kon? Bart?”

Dick glared angrily down at the smashed piece of jewellery, somehow hoping that the damn thing would bring itself back together instead of lying in fragile green fragments all over the floor. He turned up to look at Jason, who was staring at the object with as much intensity as he had been. “I hate you, why did you have to drop it?”
The younger man didn’t answer straight away, but his eyes did eventually lift to stare amusedly at Dick’s. “It’s not like I dropped it on purpose…”
Dick’s eyes narrowed as he heard the insinuating tone of the other’s voice and he resisted the urge to punch him. “I can’t believe you were stupid enough to break it, you’ve dealt with magical objects before, what did you think dropping it from a rooftop would do!”
Jason shrugged and smiled, his teeth gleaming in the darkness of the alley they were standing in. “It was annoying me, it kept re-appearing in my pocket every time I left it somewhere. So I decided to permanently get rid of it.” His eyes glittered. “Well, it worked.”
Laughter rang through the alleyway as Jason dodged the punch thrown at his head, his feet twisted and dislodged the grit, but as he did so a flash of colour caught Dick’s eye.
“Stop!” In surprise Jason did so and watched as Dick bent over, reaching for the large piece of crystal by his shoe, and Jay soaked up every second of that perfect ass that was right in his eye sight.
To his dismay Dick stood up again.
“Someone has to be laughing at us.” The acrobat muttered under his breath while he looked over the smooth heart shaped stone, the same clear cut green the shattered fragments were. “Or this is the biggest coincidence that ever walked this earth.”
But Jason wasn’t listening, or he was but most of his attention was caught up in the way that ass would feel under his hands, was it as tight as it looked? Or even better, would it feel just as tight surrounding him as he thrust inside?
The clouds moved in the wind and the sunlight was freed from its barrier, streaming down it highlighted the alley and chased away most of the shadows, it curled around the two men’s forms and Jason was awed by the effect sunlight had against that skin, since normally Nightwing was wrapped in darkness. It was like he was born for the light of day…
“Come on.” Dick sighed as he stuffed the heart stone into his pocket and glanced in frustration at the broken fragments. “Let’s go back to my apartment. I need a shower and a change of clothes.”
It took a few moments longer than Jason would have liked for him to gain his bearings and then he pouted at the suggestion and then grinned. “Is that an invitation?”
The other man twitched. “No.”
They both stepped out into the busy early morning rush of pedestrians on the New York sidewalks and they both fell into a mechanical step next to one another, power walking through the crowds.
“I can understand why you would want to change clothes, since mine are too big for you and all.”
The punch was worth the look that passed across Nightwing’s face.

The apartment smelt fresh, clean, lacking the stench of sex and dust that dominated Jason’s home and Dick let Jason use his shower after he had his own, gratefully shrugging on his own clothes against his newly cleaned skin.
While the new complication in his life was showering, Dick decided he should do something productive, since he knew, or didn’t know, the exact time he left his apartment the night before, and he might as well check the security logs to see if they revealed anything.
23.42 flashed across the small screen and the hero frowned, but was satisfied with the answer. Since it meant that he would have left his flat straight after Red Hood had broken the pendant, after he had managed to get into his suit of course.
Noticing that the sound of rushing water had stopped Dick walked over to his phone and turned on his answering machine, expecting it to be empty.
‘You have 11 new messages.’
Dick blinked and stared at the phone, listening to the messages and his mouth dropped open in shock… and seemed to open wider as Jason walked out dripping, with nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist.
“Was that a frantic little Robin I heard?” But he wasn’t smiling at the thought of Tim, but at the reaction he had managed to get from Dick.
The hero swallowed and managed to wrestle his arousal into submission. “…Kon and Bart are alive.”
